We, the Civil Service Department of the City of New Orleans, are responsible for the overall administration of the personnel functions in city government. We are seeking applicants for the position of Senior Psychometrician in our Test Development and Validation Division. This division currently manages development/revision of entry-level and promotional assessments for Citywide positions (especially, Fire and Police Departments). The Department currently administers tests for over 10 different job series and several other independent class-titles. About the Job
This position focuses predominantly on personnel selection and assessment. Typical work includes conducting job analysis, analyzing JAQ data, conducting SME meetings, developing test plans, writing test items, and interpreting EEOC and related legislation. Additionally, it includes developing testing protocols, conducting assessor training, providing internal training to the Civil Service staff/Citywide employees in the areas of industrial and organizational psychology; and other related work as required. This position also offers additional opportunities to work in the areas of training and/or performance management.
The Department of Civil Service is an exciting place for learning about various jobs within the City (e.g., crime analyst, traffic-signal technician, tow truck operator, to name a few), working with senior leaders of various departments, and sometimes conducting applied research to explore solutions to various other issues that departments face (e.g., high attrition, low recruitment). This position is ideal for someone who is an early-career professional or a fresh graduate as it provides opportunity to work closely with two I-O professionals and occasionally interact/work with individuals working in other Civil Service divisions (e.g., recruitment, pay and compensation).

This position requires an advanced degree (i.e., Master’s degree or above) in Industrial and Organizational Psychology preferably or other related field from an accredited college or university with major coursework in psychometric principles/theory, employee selection/assessment, advanced statistical methods and analysis. This position is an excellent opportunity for anyone working towards an I-O doctoral degree (i.e., ABD).
