The U.S. Secret Service is currently accepting applications for the position of Personnel Research Psychologist ($94,796 - $123,234) at its headquarters in Washington, DC. This is a unique opportunity to join a rapidly expanding HR Research team tasked with providing effective competency-based assessments to support the establishment and maintenance of a quality workforce.
The United States Secret Service is mandated by statute and executive order to carry out two significant missions: protection and criminal investigations. The Secret Service protects the president and vice president, their families, heads of state, and other designated individuals; investigates threats against these protectees; protects the White House, vice president’s residence, foreign missions, and other buildings within Washington, D.C.; and plans and implements security designs for designated National Special Security Events. The Secret Service also investigates violations of laws relating to counterfeiting of obligations and securities of the United States; financial crimes that include, but are not limited to, access device fraud, financial institution fraud, identity theft, computer fraud; and computer-based attacks on our nation’s financial, banking, and telecommunications infrastructure.
The selectee will serve as a Human Resources professional responsible for developing and validating effective competency models and competency-based assessments for employee selection, promotion, career development, and organizational effectiveness.
Additional duties of this position may include:
§ Conducting research studies to evaluate the effectiveness of existing HR systems and tools.
§ Ensuring mandated laws, rules, and regulations are properly assessed for potential impact on assessment initiatives.
§ Utilizing knowledge of test theory, psychometric methodology, and statistics to research and analyze HR data related to hiring, retention, and workforce analysis.
Ideal candidates will possess an advanced degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology or related field of study; and will possess a combination of education, training, and experience in test theory, quantitative and qualitative data analytic strategies, and research methodology. Strong candidates will have experience developing and validating competency-based assessments for employee selection, promotion, and/or organizational development purposes; and experience managing projects requiring coordination across multiple lines of business.
