Not all companies or agencies are considered large, and even in larger organizations, not all positions generate vacancies and applicant numbers like Secretary or Firefighter. In many cases, valuable resources are spent on individual job titles that rarely post vacancies. Advertising and selection processes are often tailored to particular vacancies. Hiring managers often have very specific opinions regarding where and how to advertise the job posting, how to describe the duties and preferred skills and how to screen candidates. Some of these requests may be marginal in terms of fairness but when resources are limited these small candidate drawing positions often do not get the attention they deserve.
HR professionals are required to apply the same standards to
single-vacancy selection processes as they do to high-volume processes. This workshop will address how HR professionals
can ensure due diligence and meet professional standards for the small scale
hiring processes, including:
·
Legal issues
with such processes
·
Job analysis
issues and techniques
·
Statistics and
analytical techniques, including the use of readily available software like
Excel and web sites like Surveymonkey
·
Defending
validation based on small samples
