Presented by: Matisha Montgomery & Rebecca Fraser, U.S. Office of Personnel Management

This workshop begins with an overview of the key features of the structured interview.  Next, the training outlines best practices for developing structured interview questions (behavioral and situational), probe questions, rating scales, and benchmarks. Finally, we close with a discussion of how to conduct a structured interview, how to evaluate responses to interview questions, and tips for implementing an effective structured interview.

Throughout the discussion of structured interview development and implementation, the trainers will guide participants through exercises to:

  1. Draft behavioral structured interview questions based on review of critical competencies and tasks for the HR Specialist position
  2. Write critical incidents that demonstrate competencies and draft situational structured interview questions
  3. Draft probe questions to accompany structured interview questions (behavioral and situational)
  4. Develop rating scales and benchmark descriptions
  5. Conduct mock structured interviews
