"Launching the Assessment Century"

Haven't made you're reservation yet for this year's IPMAAC Conference? Well act now to take advantage of this year's exciting program. If this is your first IPMAAC conference, then this is an ideal opportunity to meet and talk with other selection professionals, share ideas, and establish contacts.
The program will kick off on Monday June 11, 2001 with an address by Dr. Edward Lawler, on "HR in the Future: Strategies for Adding Value". For Tuesday, Dr. Marilyn Gowing will start the day with, "E Assessment in an E Government World." The focus of our keynote session Wednesday will be "Testing and the Law in the New Millennium" presented by Keith Pyburn, J.D. And, to complete our conference on Thursday, Dr. Deniz Ones, will discuss "Personality for Managers and Presidents".

In addition, there are about 45 presentations during the conference on a number of topics in a variety of formats including paper sessions, tutorials, symposiums, and panel discussions. Topics range from tutorials on developing multiple-choice exams and selection tools for promotional law to symposia on using test statistics to evaluate the examining process, innovations in assessment, and computerized and web-based personnel assessment. Paper topics range from maximizing personality validity, online testing, innovation processes to select future leaders, development and implementation of an electronic 360 degree feedback, and assessing workers as humans. There are also a number of panel discussions planned including: a report on a federal case in the City of Oakland; an information testing system from New York State, a discussion on the standards for educational and psychological testing, building an online application system, and the changing philosophy of the use of eligibility lists within a merit system.

Newport Beach
The conference is being held at the Hyatt Newporter in Newport Beach. Many of you my remember the excellent conference (and social activities) we had at this same facility in 1997. The address for the hotel is: 1107 Jamboree Road, Newport Beach, CA 92660, Telephone: 949.729.1234.
Newport Beach is located on the coast of California in Orange County. 14 miles from Disneyland (Anaheim), 20 miles south of Long Beach, 50 miles south of Los Angeles, 64 miles west of Palm Springs and 85 miles north of San Diego. The area has a Mediterranean climate with sunny days and cool evenings. In June, the average high temperature is 68 and the average low is 59. Sunrise is at approximately 5:40 a.m. and sunset at 8:00 p.m.
Orange County's John Wayne Airport is just 5 miles away from the hotel and the hotel provides complimentary transportation to and from the airport. Los Angeles International (LAX) is an alternative airport located approximately 40 miles away.
Points of interest include: Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Balboa Island/Balboa Peninsula, Disneyland®, Knott's Berry Farm®, South Coast Repertory, Orange County Performing Arts Center, Fashion Island shopping and dining, Edison International Field/Anaheim Stadium (Angels), Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim (Mighty Ducks®), South Coast Plaza, Catalina Island, Richard Nixon Library, Laguna Beach Art Festival/Pageant of the Masters, University of California Irvine, and the Orange County Museum of Arts.
